Self-heating Baby Bottle
The problem _ This project concentrates on making parents less dependent on electricity when being out and about with their young child/ren. Framed by my intermedia diploma I made a baby bottle which can heat up milk and pulp wherever and whenever you want without having direct access to electricity.
My inspiration _ I was inspired by Bentoboxes used in Asian countries to transport different sorts of food without getting them mixed. The food is stored in different compartments and stacked on each other.

The design _ The form follows the function of stacking and is simple and straightforward. Regarding the design is was very important to me that the overall impression of the bottle is friendly, pure and trustful. The light colors enhance that feeling and the name „Smats“ connects an association to eating noisily and to kids enjoying their food.
Modular composition _ The bottle is put together of 5 modules which can be assembled in different ways. On the bottom is always the battery module consisting of a safe and organic Aluminium-Ion battery pack. It resists impacts and is fully recharged within a minute. It was developed at Stanford University and is unfortunately still in a prototyping phase.
Sustainable design _ The bottle is meant to outface different states of the child’s development. In the first months you can just take the bottle module to feed your baby with milk. Later on you can transport tea, pulp or soup for your toddler. Either way you can decide what to take and assemble it that way.
Connecting the Modules _ The modules are connected with each other by a slewing ring and can be reassembled with a simple turn. They connect in a way that the point of contact is between the battery pack and the heating wires no matter which parts are assembled with each other.
Heat it up _ The bottle heats the inside to the right temperature of 40° Celsius (approx. 8 min). The heating wires surround the inside glass and transfer the heat to the food. The outside glass forms an isolating layer around the wires and makes holding the bottle during the heating process harmless.
Coloring _ Colors with a lot of white come over open and friendly.
